The goal of the browser-driven Digital Project Archive (DPA) is to develop aninternet based project file that can be used both as an information management tool and as an educational resource for the public.

Thanks to the generous support of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation, this concept began by researching past approaches to documentation and information management techniques employed in the field of historic preservation. Because of the precedent set by the U.S. National Park Service through the concept of the "Historic Structure Report" and the "Cultural Landscape Report," the evolution of these important documents and the analytical processes they represent were studied. Under consideration now is the role that emerging web technologies can play in the creation of a new kind of project archive.

Today historic preservation practitioners are presented with new tools that are drastically changing the way projects are executed. The Digital Project Archive is one example of how the use of emerging technologies can help expand the goals of information collection, management and dissemination.
