Moulton Field Survey

Existing Conditions
A condition survey was conducted over the course of three days, from October 20 to October 22, 2017. The team identified the primary deterioration condition affecting the cement stucco was cracking; other secondary conditions, including biological growth and discolored or deteriorating finishes, were also present.

Sara Stratte conducts a survey of conditions from grade. Condition assessment consisted of making annotations on elevation drawings indicating the size and pattern of cracks in the stucco.

Conditions Documentation
Conditions drawings were created to depict the extent and pattern of cracks for each elevation in order to help diagnose the cause of deterioration. This method, however, cannot fully establish the area of detachment beneath the surface of the stucco, nor deformation of the feature due to racking which are critical to determine in order to estimate risk of failure. Probing the interface of the stucco and frame could begin to confirm these conditions, but due to the high integrity of the structure, it is imperative to use methods that minimize damage to the historic fabric as much as possible. In order to approximate these conditions we used spatial-based digital analyses, enumerated in the Digital Analyses section.
Below: Deterioration conditions were annotated onto architectural line drawings of the conditions on each elevation in order to present the spatial relationship, both on individual elevations and across the surface of the structure.
